Quick Ward Profiles

Good for: ward-based queries

A Quick Ward Profile is a summary of all the data themes on DataRich (e.g. Population, Crime & Community Safety, Housing…) at Ward level. Quick Ward Profiles are accessible from the Homepage. Choose a Ward by simply clicking on the map or search for a postcode and return the relevant Ward Profile. From the resulting report, you can:

  • Export or print whole reports
  • Copy and paste charts
  • Download data from tables
  • View metadata

Data Themes: Overviews and Reports

Good for: more data on themes, data for small geographies

Data Themes are the topic areas covered on DataRich (e.g. Population, Crime & Community Safety, Housing…) – you can find them listed under the ‘Data’ tab or in the coloured boxes on the Homepage. They typically contain more information the Quick Ward Profiles.

There are three components: borough overview, reports and a map. When you visit a Data Theme, you will automatically be presented with the borough overview – a summary of the theme for the whole borough. Alternatively, you can click ‘Reports’ at the top of the page and generate a Ward or LSOA-level* summary for the Data Theme. From the overview and reports, you can:

  • Export or print whole reports
  • Copy and paste charts
  • Download data from tables
  • View metadata

*Use our Guide to Geography to find out more about Wards and LSOAs and use our lookup function to find yours!

Data Themes: Maps

Good for: data for small geographies, geographical patterns, temporal patterns

Most Data Themes also have a mapping function – you will find the ‘Map’ button at the top of the page. The map allows users to display data from within the theme geographically. Users can change the data and geography shown (e.g. Wards, LSOAs*), the basemap and the symbol levels on the map. Users can easily sort and download data, export or print maps. You can also use the time slider at the top of some maps to visualise time trends.

*Use our Guide to Geography to find out more about Wards and LSOAs and use our lookup function to find yours!

Custom Area Reporter

Good for: data over non-standard areas

The Custom Area Reporter is a tool that enables users to build a ‘custom area’ from several standard boundaries (e.g. Wards, LSOAs*). You can then generate reports for this ‘custom area’, across all data themes on DataRich. You can save ‘custom areas’ you have built for future use.

*Use our Guide to Geography to find out more about Wards and LSOAs and use our lookup function to find yours!

Population Explorer

Good for: figures for specific population groups

The Population Explorer is a tool that enables users to make specific queries of population data. Users are directed to the most current and relevant population estimates and projections. The data can be filtered by age, sex, ethnicity, religion, marriage/civil partnership status, disability, geographical area and year.

Data Explorer

Good for: finding all relevant data, sharing data with colleagues, benchmarking

The Data Explorer enables users to search all 6,000+ indicators that are available through DataRich – you will find additional data sets that aren’t included in our standard profiles and reports. Use the ‘search bar’ and ‘filters’ to narrow your search. Once you’ve found relevant indicators, you can:

  • Explore their metadata
  • Display and download data tables for areas at your selected geographical level
  • Create and download maps
  • Add indicators to your ‘favourites’
  • Share individual indicators and your ‘favourites’ list with colleagues

Good for: additional data and interactive tools

If you can’t find the data you’re looking for, you will discover additional online data sources and interactive tools providing local information in our Links & Resources section.

Guide to Geography

Good for: finding relevant geographies

Our Guide to Geography section includes information on the various geographical boundaries on DataRich. Search for a postcode in our lookup tool to find the names of relevant boundaries (e.g. LSOA, Ward). You can then use this information in some of our other tools such as Data Theme Reports.
